Hydrogeological Mapping for the Northern United Arab Emirates
The groundwater resources of the Northern UAE required reassessment, as they were thought to be subject to significant over-abstraction. The UAE Ministry of Energy funded 1:100,000 scale hydrogeological mapping of the area (12,000 square km). The objective was to obtain and express information about the hydrogeological and hydrological setting, determining controls on groundwater discharge and recharge for the region. The maps provide a basis for integrated water resource management (IWRM), and effective decision-making in groundwater protection and land-use planning.
Aquageo were the main service provider, designing and performing a field groundwater sampling exercise, providing statistical data analysis, technical reports and developing maps and cross-sections for the project.

A flagship oceanarium development is proposed on the Red Sea coast. The facility will require a high throughput of seawater, and a subsurface well intake at the shore has been identified as the lowest environmental impact option.
